Before
first use, all new linen should be washed separately to remove any leftover
dye from the manufacturing process. Mixing colours and products in this
first wash could result in serious staining.
In all washes
apart from the first, products should be grouped into a white, medium and
dark wash.
Before
loading table cloths into the washer, remember to shake out each item, so
that any food debris or misplaced cutlery causes damage to the machinery.
Wash
polyester table
cloths separately from 100% cotton and polycotton blend
tablecloths, as any loose fibres from the cotton and polycotton blends would
deposit lint onto the polyester linens. Use a synthetic wash cycle
(maximum 50° C for normal soiling), cool tumble dry, and warm iron if necessary.
If an
item is heavily soiled, it can be washed at a maximum of 60°C, but should
be cooled down very gradually by 5°C steps, until the load reaches the
safe level of 45°C. This helps to avoid thermal shock and shrinkage,
symptoms of rapid cool down.
Typical Wash Program For 100% Polyester Table Linen For Semi Industrial Washing Machines
Washer
should be loaded only to 80% of recommended capacity.
The use
of any softeners or bacteria stats in the wash will mask the absorbency of
the fabric, and therefore should be avoided.
Only
oxygen release bleach guarantees the safety of your colours – chlorine
bleach could ruin tablecloths.
Sours
will improve the removal of residual chemicals in the cloth, and could be
an asset if star starching is required. Natural starch is much preferred
to natural starch.
Temperatures
can be increased to a maximum of 60° C should the item be heavily soiled,
but again, remember to reduce gradually to 45°C to avoid thermal shock
occurring and damaging items.
Suggested Drying Procedure
Dryers
should only be loaded to 50% recommended capacity.
The heat
cycle should be on a low setting, with a fabric temperature of 80°C - 90°C.
Linen should
be completely dry before the “cool-down” cycle starts. The drying time
varies between 10 and 20 minutes, depending on the machine’s extraction
facility, the size of the load, and the original temperature.
For best
results when flat-drying: 1.) All linens should be immediately unloaded
when cycle is completed. Tablecloths should then be draped across a
trolley or a folding table, and napkins should
be stacked flat. 2.) Allow a shelf time of 24 hours to enhance the
appearance of your flat-dried linens.
For professional
results, nothing beats thorough ironing.
Black and Reds should always be washed seperately.
